Personality:
Now this may be an odd first thing to note about a character, but Cody possesses a remarkable amount of common sense and is very, very competent. Where Cody lives, in Griffin Rock, both common sense and competency is.... optional. Luckily for Griffin Rock they have Cody’s family: Dani, Graham, Kade, and Chief Charlie Burns. Unlike most of Griffin Rock, these guys actually know what they’re doing. Though brave, Cody doesn’t treat danger lightly, he knows as well as anyone that fires, earthquakes, and even storms can mean the potential loss of life. He knows enough not run into dangerous situations blindly, but sometimes it’s really, really hard to avoid those. He has been noted as being very ‘tenacious” by a few adults. When he sets his mind on something, he sticks with it until the very end. It’s not a very attractive trait when it involves shoving himself into someone else’s business. He’s pretty independant for a kid and can manage on his own quite well.
Although not as brilliant as his friend Frankie Greene, Cody still possesses a sharp mind and an ability to figure things out before others. Cody’s leadership skills can be seen throughout the series, as he’s able to come up with a plan faster than most adults and he’s even able to take command of situations his older siblings are involved in. Of course, Cody is still a child so his family fully expects him to stay out of harms way. This doesn’t always happen, but he tries. Sometimes. He still helps where he can, usually from the Command Center where he observes Griffin Rock through cameras scattered throughout the town and offers tactical support to his family. For some reason he can switch the entire island’s power source from the power plant to the wind turbines with a push of a button. What a weird responsibility to give a kid.
Cody was the first, besides his father, to see the Rescue Bots as anything besides mindless robots. Being a very open minded kid, he immediately befriended them and started to teach them how to adapt to Earth. To him they’re not Aliens From a Far Away Galaxy, but friends who have lost their home and need to make their new start on Earth. It’s through his own patience and understanding that his siblings and their robot partners eventually learn to get along and work together. He’s proud of what a great team they have become and he hopes nothing changes that. When problems arise between team members, it’s usually Cody who has to step up and somehow make it better again. In a group of sometimes clashing personalities, it takes one that's as level as his to smooth things out.
Seeing as his family is on call 24/7, Cody understands that they can’t always spend time with them. His dad can’t take him camping because there’s always something Chief Burns has to do. Even when they do go camping, it’s for something important that needs to be done. It makes him sad, and even a little bit lonely, but he knows that his family has very important jobs, and he’s not about to stand in the way of that. He’s close to his family, but he can often be brushed aside because of his age and inexperience. This has led to a few times where he was ignored when he had the right answer all along.
As a result of his entire family being heroes, Cody himself has a tiny bit of a hero complex. He wants to do right by everyone and he wants to be helpful in any way possible. He’s under a lot of shadows here, often to the point where he can go unintentionally ignored by his siblings and father, sometimes even by the rescue bots themselves. Several times Cody has put himself in danger in an effort to make himself seem useful, and when he does start to be useful it immediately goes to his head, causing him to try even harder. Cody is a bit of an adventure seeker, and he’s lucky enough to find adventure whenever he looks for it. Griffin Rock is a place where technology thrives after all, and it’s not unusual to find something like a shrink ray or anti-gravity boots out here. He wants to help people, it’s as simple as that.
Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses:
Abilities
Cody has a pretty basic knowledge on most survival skills. He can take care of himself if he’s lost in the wild just fine, and he knows basic first aid. He’s shown to be charismatic, as he’s able to talk to the bots and convince them to do things.
Strengths
Rather like his father, Cody isn’t easily ruffled by unusual situations, since things like flying sheep and giant metal sharks are things that just happen in a place like Griffin Rock. He’s really good at just rolling with it, after all what else can you do when your robot friends get shrunk down to the size of a pea? He’s shown to be a smart kid, resourceful, and a surprisingly strong leader, as he’s able to take control of the situation before most of the adults. On an island full of people who lack common sense, Cody has more than his fair share. Also he can hoverboard like a pro.
Weaknesses
Cody is completely average in every way. Besides his averageness, he does have a few personality flaws that gets him into trouble more than once. Despite a few adult responsibilities, Cody is still a child. He enjoys exploring with Frankie, hoverboarding, playing basketball with his siblings, and reading stories to his robot friends. He takes school fairly seriously, but he’ll half-ass his projects if there’s more interesting things to do. He’s responsible, but he’ll sometimes end up in situations where he’s way over his head, and that’ll usually be because he tries to jump into unusual situations without thinking it all the way through first.

[Cody coughs a little, nervous but determined to do this. At the same time he feels some sort of cool confidence ]
My friends are missing, and I would appreciate some help finding them. I need some volunteers to help me organize a search party. Both ground and aerial support needed for this so... please. I need your help.
Their names are Boulder, Heatwave, Blades, and Chase. They’re a bulldozer, fire truck, helicopter, and police car respectively. I know it seems kind of weird to be worried about vehicles, but believe me, these are really special kinds of vehicles. Actually, they’re kind of transforming alien robots. But trust me! They’re fine once you get to know them! They definitely wouldn’t hurt anyone, it’s not in their programming.
[Is there really anyone out there who will take him seriously? He is just a kid after all, and no matter how authoritative he makes his voice sound, there’s no getting around that. However, his dad always said that you should try no matter what, and Cody isn’t the type to give up just because there’s one or two obstacles in his path.]
Prose Log Sample:
“Dad?”
Cody called out, sitting up and glancing around uneasily. This was definitely not Griffin Rock. He stood up and shivered, hugging himself out of a mixture of chilliness and fear. This place doesn’t look anything like Griffin Rock, where washe? Maybe he’s dreaming? If that was the case, then this was probably one of his most boring dreams. He shook his head and immediately tried to contact someone through his comm link.
“Kade? Dani? Graham? Anyone! Heatwave?”
No answer.
Well, he could either stand here and shout uselessly at his dead comm link or try to find food, water, and shelter. Determination spread across his face as he started trudging forward. He didn’t know where he was or why he was here, but first thing he had to do was find a way to survive. There had to be something around here he could use. Food would be nice, but shelter and water were what he concentrated on the most.
After half-an-hour of walking across the rocky landscape, Cody concluded that shelter was going to be the only thing he was going to find. If only the stars would give him some clue. He stopped for a moment and looked up at them. Cody knew how to identify constellations pretty well, but nothing up there looked even remotely familiar. Was he even on earth anymore? If he wasn’t on earth, how was he able to breathe? That seemed like a little bit of an important thing.
This place was so lonely.
He really wished his dad was here. Even on an alien world, Cody was absolutely sure he’d know just what to do. Or even one of his siblings would be nice. Dani and Kade were both tougher than nails, and Graham was very smart. There wasn’t a doubt in his mind that they’d be able to come up with something. Now if only he could do something too…
